We were really pleased to welcome the team from Reconomy recently to make a short film about what we do and why reuse matters.

Reconomy has been a great supporter of The Rebuild Site. They regularly think of us when they come across surplus materials that could potentially be reused.

The film explores how surplus stock can be kept in use rather than automatically heading down the waste hierarchy, and how materials can find a second life through reuse in local communities. Circular economy isn’t just about having good ideas, it’s about making them work in practice.

And we’ve recently seen exactly what that can look like. Reconomy helped us bring in timber fencing from the Clifton Bridge project near Penrith. Skanska had carefully dismantled the fencing at the end of the works so it could be reused, and Reconomy responded to our request for help within days to organise getting it to us.

Much of that fencing has already found new homes for garden projects, community projects, animal enclosures and allotments.

A big thank you to the Reconomy team for making the film, for continuing to look for opportunities to work with us, and for being willing to have the conversations that can turn surplus materials into something useful.
