Emma, Rebuild’s founder and CEO, recently attended the launch of The ReStage Script at the National Theatre, a major new report exploring how the theatre and live events sector can reduce waste by reusing sets, scenery and production materials.

The report is the result of two years of research and collaboration and sets out a ten-year roadmap for creating the infrastructure needed to make reuse a normal part of the industry.

Although the focus is theatre, many of the challenges are familiar to us in construction. Valuable materials are often discarded not because they have reached the end of their life, but because the systems and partnerships needed to keep them in use don’t yet exist.

It was encouraging to hear conversations moving beyond why reuse matters and focusing instead on the practical steps needed to make it happen. At Rebuild, we’ve seen first-hand that successful reuse relies on collaboration, logistics and creating the right infrastructure; lessons that are just as relevant in other sectors.

We’re looking forward to following the programme as it develops and continuing to share learning across industries working towards a more circular economy.
