We were pleased to host the first event in Cumbria for the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) at Rebuild last week,
The event, titled “Combining Circular Economy with Community and Social Impact – is it a myth?”, brought together professionals from across the transport and construction sectors for an evening of discussion, learning and networking.
The session included:
- A presentation from Dr Geoff Wallman entitled, “Is going off grid the way to Net Zero for Transport Hubs?” Dr Geoff Wallman is the founder and CEO of Intelligen, a Haltwhistle based SME innovating in smart mobility infrastructure, including solar powered e-bike hubs and bus shelters, good data and low-energy edge computing.
- A talk from Rebuild’s founder on how circular economy and social impact works in practice, including the realities of materials, logistics and community impact
- Informal networking with attendees from across the region
The event created space for open and practical conversations about how circular approaches can be progressed, not just discussed. It also highlighted the value of seeing projects like Rebuild in person; understanding how reuse works day-to-day and where the challenges and opportunities sit.
Hosting the event at Rebuild felt like a natural fit. As a working reuse hub, the site provides a real-world example of circular economy in action, alongside its social and community impact.
We’re keen to build on this and host more industry events in the future. Bringing people into the space, from contractors and local authorities to designers and policy-makers, is one of the most effective ways to share learning, spark collaboration, and support practical change.
