More than 30 people gathered at The Rebuild Site, Carlisle on Wednesday evening (29th October) to celebrate the contractors who rolled up their sleeves to help move the organisation into its new home at Heathlands Industrial Estate.
The event brought together contractors, community partners and supporters to hear first-hand from local community projects who have benefitted from Rebuild’s work, including NCIC, Step Forward and Beaumont College. Each shared how access to surplus materials or work placements from The Rebuild Site has helped them improve spaces, support learning and create opportunities locally.
Each contractor who contributed to the move received a handcrafted award made from reclaimed materials by RWM Woodturning — a fitting symbol of reuse and collaboration. The awards went to Story Contracting, Story Plant, Solomons, AE Yates, North West Recycling, BAM, Sir Robert McAlpine, Sunbelt Rentals and Heidelberg Materials.
Founder and Director Emma Porter said:
“We’re so grateful to every company that helped make this move possible. This new site gives us space to do even more — to divert more materials from landfill, support more community projects, and train more people in circular construction practices. What we’ve achieved here is a brilliant example of what happens when businesses, communities and individuals come together to make change.”
The Rebuild Site, formed in 2021, prevents construction materials from going to waste by redistributing surplus to community projects, schools and individuals. Its new premises at Heathlands Industrial Estate will become a flagship base — combining a shop, training facility and community hub for circular economy activity in the region.
